Naïve has never been a word to describe Peter Farrell. As the second son of a St. Louis Irish beat cop, Peter knew better than most that things may not always be what they seem. However, nothing prepared the young attorney for the stack of files that his client hands him. The files contain evidence of a multi-national corporation's manipulation of the American political system through campaign contributions, bribes, and blackmail. Behind the corruption lies the poster boy for corporate America and the religious right, billionaire Elias St. Armand. Hunted by St. Armand, Farrell escapes from St. Louis to San Francisco, where he reconnects with Sara Ahrens, his former love. More important, she is the only one he can trust now. Over the course of three harrowing days, Peter and Sara discover they are unwilling pawns in St. Armand's plan to thrust the U.S. into a war with Syria that will set the Middle East ablaze.
The Cross of St Maro eBook E Kelly Keady
E. Kelly Keady gives us a great mystery, thriller, political thriller, religous thriller, etc. all wrapped up in one well written novel. Our hero, Peter Ferrell, will come to be the type of hero that all average Americans can learn to love. He is not some highly trained military person, nor is he trained by the CIA or NSA or even the Secret Service. No, he is fairly ordinary. He is a lawyer working for a firm in St. Louis and just going about his every day work life when he is drawn in to a case that will shake the foundations of the United States Government as well as the world.
Peter is asked to look into the life of Elias St. Armand, a philanthropist, billionaire who seems to the world that he is a "good guy" but to his wife, who is in an insane asylum for trying to kill him, he is a monster. Peter is asked to defend the wife against her diagnosis of being insane. She sends him on an errand to retrieve some documents that she gave her mother that will unravel Peter's trust in the Law, his trust in the Government and his trust in just about everything.
The documents show that Elias and his company, Occidental, have blackmailed dozens if not hundreds of Senators, Congressmen, Judges, attorneys, etc. They even are working on getting their own man into the White House. From here they will run the world.
There is another group, the CIR, the Council on International Relations, that is helping Elias, or are they?
Bottom line, Peter's brother and employer are murdered. His law school professor is murdered as well as some others. All the crimes are pointing at Peter as the instigator and word on the street is he is a serial killer of Lawyers and needs to be caught.
The truth is, he ihas the documents to prove that the government is corrupt and they are just trying to silence him, or are they.
In a book that has more twists and turns than a famous street in San Francisco, which by the way is where a good portion of the book happens, we will find that we need a scorecard to try and keep track of the characters and decide whether they are good or bad.
Maybe the only criticism I can have of the book is the flashbacks to childhood memories of many of the characters that bring in the history of WWII, war crimes and ethnic cleansing. I understand why these are necessary back stories to the main story, but often times they take longer to develop than what I thought was necessary.
But all that aside, the book is fast paced, well written well documented, has plenty of good buys / bad guys to either love or hate and frankly a lot of people that are developed for the next book in the installment of Peter Ferrell.
Unfortunately I read the sequel first and then the first in the series. I suggest you take the series in order. You will not be disappointed.
E. Kelly Keady has just become one of my top 10 authors.
Enjoy!

The Cross of St Maro eBook E Kelly Keady Reviews
This is a very well written and fast paced thriller that kept we turning pages long after I should have been in bed. I just kept on, anxious to read about what would happen next to young lawyer Peter Farrell and his former girlfriend Sara. He initially, and then she, accidentally get involved in an intricate plot by a cabal of powerful men to take complete control of the Middle
East. Peter has some documents they want desperately, and are willing to do anything, and kill anyone, to get them back.
There are chase scenes set in Washington D.C., San Francisco and New York City, and a plot to release sarin gas in the NYC subway system. I found the evil characters very well drawn, and even several of the "minor" players receive a brief biography. For a young lawyer with little experience outside of the law, Peter becomes rather deft at eluding his pursuers, which might give some readers pause about that. As I have said in many former reviews, I accept the author's world and characters as he wrote them, so this was not a big problem for me.
Peter faces the question of who he can trust, for it seems as if police and government agencies are chasing him. There are several escapes that can bend the imagination quota a bit, but they just added to the frantic pace of the plot. I understand that this is the first book in a trilogy about Peter Farrell. My wife is in the process of reading the second "The Fall of St. Sebastian" (she really liked this one!), and when she is finished I can't wait to get my hands on it and see what other dangers await Peter Farrell!
Just finished the digital version and thoroughly enjoyed it. I like how Keady intersperses history into his modern tale. The historical references add to his character's depth, but don't take away from the overall story or pace of the book.
Onward to St. Sebastian...
